GENERAL INDICATIONS Section C: ANIMATED SHORT FILMS
Here are some short detailed indications and information to complete the contest regulation.
THEME - > CONFLICTS: BETWEEN THE CULT OF WAR AND THE CULTURE OF PEACE (sub-themes: general reflections about the culture of peace and on the historic use of war by mankind; solidarity and justice as a guarantee for human rights and peace; relationship between small conflicts and big ones; champions of peace; organisations operating on a local basis or on a world basis for the diffusion of peace; governments, intellectuals, mass-media: how war is represented; influence of war movies or games; children at war).
For this section of the contest the only restriction is the consistency with the proposed theme, together with the file format and size indications.
With this theme, we hope authors will produce movies that, on the background of the general theme, suggest ideas or food for thought about one or more sub-themes.
Works are consistent with the proposed theme even if only one subject is dealt with. It is however optional for contestants to use the reference images and text of the guidelines.
In this way, they can use materials belonging to Modena Province or to other authors, thus free from copyright restrictions. The use of such materials will not influence the decision of the jury.
It is possible to submit works created before aniMOweb and independently, provided they were not submitted for previous editions of the contest. They have to deal with the proposed theme. A special committee will decide if they can be received, in particular if there is consistency with the proposed theme.
TYPE -> animated short film
An "animated short film" is a film of short duration that develops the assigned theme through the use of animated images and graphics, sound or music, and possibly a narrator or some dialogues. It should present an original style and a narrative, according to an original screenplay or a story-board. The role of the spectator will have to be passive, that is the mouse is not needed.
However, the works that require a non-passive role of the viewer will not be excluded from the context. The narrative and visual quality, in any case, should be prevailing on the inter-activity of the film.
LANGUAGE -> It is possibile to submit works in one only version, either Italian or English.
It is also possible to create 1 file containing both versions, with a preliminary choice between the two. Since the aniMOweb site has both versions, two versions of the movies contained in 2 different files will be published in the Italian and English pages of the site.
It is advisable to use the English language. For Italian authors the ideal would be the double version in Italian and English in the same file or in two separate files, possibly with subtitles.
If the language was different from Italian or English, the submission would be received anyway, but subtitles or translations in Italian and/or English will be necessary.
USE OF WINNING WORKS -> the winning intro will be published in the DVD published after the contest, in the aniMOweb site, in Modena Province site, in other possible sites edited by Modena Province or other sponsoring institutions, in the cd-rom enclosed in the magazine Computer Graphics and Publishing by Gruppo Editoriale IHT.
FILES FORMAT AND SIZE
The contest regulation establishes that the format of the files can only be:
Macromedia Flash (swf format, to be viewed with Flash Player)
- Dimensions of the swf files:
Section C) - > a maximum dimension of 10 Mb is proposed
ANIMATION TECHNIQUES
Any kind of animation technique can be employed, from the so-called traditional techniques (puppet or object animation, cel animation, sequence of drawings, decoupage, pixillation, etc.) to digital techniques (2D, 3D, mixed techniques, etc.). The only restriction is the final output, which has to be converted in a Flash file (swf format, to be viewed with Flash Player).
SUBMISSION OF WORKS
In order to make the site designer's and the jury's work easier, the names of the swf files that will be submitted for the contest will have to contain the author's surname and the submission date. They will also have to follow the schemes: surname_ddmm.swf (for example rossi_3110.swf if Mr Rossi sends his file on the 31st of October).
