4/3/2003: Environment and pollution as 2003 Animoweb Contest subject
The organizers of Animoweb Contest have decided the theme for web artists of year 2003 edition: environment and, in particular, pollution. The preoccupation that social and economical development does not hinder the conservation of the planet, of the environment and of its inhabitants should be a priority among the decisions taken by local and national authorities on a global, as well as on a local level.
This is true especially in a time when conventional, bacteriological and chemical or even nuclear wars are dealt with in everyday news.
On a local level, the Council for Environment and Soil Conservation of Modena Province presents a periodical report on the State of the Environment in Modena territory: the state of the air, of the climate, of geological and water resources, of soil and energy, the causes of environment deterioration, refuse, etc…, all environment conservation themes are dealt with in a complete way.
In order to advertise the third edition of the Report on the State of the Environment (year 2003), we have decided to produce a cd-rom, as well as a booklet version, and to highlight the report in the site of Modena Province.
After the encouraging results of 2002 edition of Animoweb on the subject of tourism, the contest organizers are confident that other high level artworks will contribute to promoting the Report on the State of the Environment, making its reading an interactive interesting experience, even for young people and non-experts.
The cooperation between the Presidency Department and the Council for Environment and Soil Conservation of Modena Province has resulted in the decision of promoting and prizing web artists that will create animations, interactive applications and short films suitable for internet presentation on environment themes.
The winning works will be published in the cd-rom of the Report on the State of the Environment in Modena Province, while all the submitted works will be visible in the Animoweb site, as in the last edition. The works will be evaluated by a jury as well as by the public. In addition, Modena Province site will publish some works.
2003 contest is subdivided into three sections: section A and section B from the previous edition are repeated (the first is about animated intros, the latter is about games or highly interactive applications), while a new section C is introduced for animated short films in web format. Some guidelines are established for the first two sections (texts, images, file size) and the authors will have to follow them strictly. On the other hand, section C will have no guidelines and the authors will be free to invent except for the theme of environment pollution.
The total budget for 12 prizes is € 7.800 with the same single amounts of the previous edition: 1500 euros for 1st place winners, 700 euros for 2nd place winners, 300 euros for 3rd place winners and 100 euros for the audience prize.
One of the purposes of the organizers is that of getting the same number of participants of the previous edition or even to increase them. In particular, they hope more participants from other countries will submit their works.
The prize awarding ceremony will take place in September - October.
