9/2/2004. Towards aniMOweb 2004
While aniMOweb 2003 on environmental themes is still being promoted, the editorial staff is busy organising the next edition of the contest.
The Council for Equal Opportunities between men and women will be the principal promoting partner of Modena Province Presidency Department. The assigned themes will be: women, their role in society (in particular work), heroines and female characters, the relationship between sexes and the resulting consequences on the development of the human species.
ANIMOWEB 2003 AUTHORS ARE BACK
The unique quality of the movies submitted for aniMOweb 2003 is still producing its effects. Some of the short animated films (more easily exploitable outside aniMOweb than intros and games) were appointed in other festivals and even won prizes. The last breaking news is that Marco Perugini with "Paper Sky" was one of the nominees for the FlashForward2004 awards in S. Francisco (USA), the most important contest for Flash artists in the world. The same author with the same film won the first prize of the web festival Castelli Animati in Genzano. Gianluca Sacco with "Urban sound" received a special mention in the same Roman contest, while "Story of a short journey to the city" by Marina Gigante, "Souvenir" by Roberto Ferrari and Roberto Sarasso (PHC Animazioni) and "Cellular" by Armando Valcauda were appointed as well.
AniMOweb first prize winner "But you can't go on without me" by Pulcini Gialli and the self same "Paper Sky" by Marco Perugini, winner of the FlashToons award for the best original story in Modena, were appointed and performed in the FutureFilmFestival in Bologna. Soon they can be voted for the audience prize on the site of the FutureWebFestival.
2 FURTHER EVENTS FOR ANIMOWEB 2003: THE PRESENTATION OF THE CD OF THE THIRD REPORT ON THE STATE OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN MODENA PROVINCE AND THE TV PROGRAM NOI E L'AMBIENTE
Province Councillor Ferruccio Giovanelli is introducing The Third Report on the state of the environment in Modena province, Thursday, 19th February, 3 p.m. at the Faculty of Economics, University of Modena.
The CD- roms with the report edited by Giovanni Rompianesi and the Council for Environment of Modena Province in Cupertino with ARPA and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia will be handed out freely . The box contains 2 CD-roms, one with the report, the other presenting all the films submitted for the contest on environmental themes and pollution. Some of the intros, some of the games and some of the films of aniMOweb contest will be performed in the lecture hall, while a portable PC will be available in the adjoining room to show all the movies.
From January to March 2004, the TV program Noi e l'Ambiente is a weekly appointment. It is produced by the Local TV Telemodena and Modena Province. In each of the 10 episodes the last part is devoted to aniMOweb intros, games and films about environmental themes. Unfortunately, Telemodena can be received only in Modena province area, but it is interesting to note that aniMOweb movies are splendidly rendered through the television screen. It is difficult to believe that they are made principally for the web. Noi e l'Ambiente is on TV on Fridays (10 p.m.) and Sundays (4 p.m.).
ANIMOWEB 2004 ABOUT WOMEN AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN
The organising engine of aniMOweb 2004, in the meantime, has already been started.
The Council for Equal Opportunities between men and women will be the principal promoting partner of Modena Province Presidency Department. The assigned themes will be: women, their role in society (in particular female work), the different daily routine of men and women, heroines and female characters, the relationship between sexes and the resulting effects on the development of the human species.
A series of events on these current themes will complete the international contest during 2004, in particular during the last week of October: a conference, an exhibition on comic strips and web female characters, a review of animated films by female authors or about female characters, the second edition of the workshop FlashAnimathon with Istituto Venturi in Modena, the meeting with the authors of aniMOweb and the usual prize awarding ceremony.
The deadlines programmed for 2004 are the same as the previous edition. The contest regulation and the guidelines are due within the end of March, the press conference is announced for the 5th of April, the deadline for submissions is 31st July, the audience vote starts about 15th of August until the final week of aniMOweb, from 25th to 30th October.
2004 edition of aniMOweb is dense with events. The organisers are doing their best to make it an interesting occasion for talking about equal opportunities between women and men at work and in society, the universe of women and their cultural models, the relationship between sexes and its evolution in history and in the future. It will be interesting to see the point of view of female authors, but the analysis of male authors as well, since these problems have always been dealt by both sexes. It is reasonable to predict a greater interest on the part of women, but the contribution of men is welcome and appreciated, with equal opportunities of prize assignment. Numerous comic strips heroines have been created by men, from the intellectual little girl Mafalda by Quino to the glamorous dreamer Valentina by Crepax.
The most demanding task will be that of the (male and female) authors taking time and energy to propose their works without the certainty of a final prize.
The total budget of prizes is the same as last year: 7.800 (for each of the 3 sections: 1.500 to 1st prize winners, 700 to 2nd prize winners, 300 to 3rd prize winners + 100 to audience prize winners). It is not possible to give prizes to all authors, but aniMOweb organisers will do their best to promote all the submitted works with success, as they did in the previous editions.
AniMOweb adventure is going to start. For more information subscribe to the newsletter from the homepage of the site www.animoweb.it or write to firstname.lastname@example.org .
This year the animations for the splash page were produced by the following authors (alphabetical order):
Some images will be taken from these animations to create postcards to promote the 2004 edition of the contest.
