Animoweb and Guerre e Pace Filmfest 2008 in Nettuno

The movies of the 4th Edition of AniMOweb are presented during the 6th edition of Guerre e Pace (Wars and Peace) Filmfest taking place in Nettuno near Rome from 21st to 27th July.
The festival is located in the impressive Sangallo Fortress and has been organised by Associazione Culturale Seven. Every year, it proposes a schedule of films and documentaries on the themes of war and peace. Showcasing aniMOweb 4th Edition movies about parallel themes, the festival is dealing with cartoons for the first time.
During Guerre e Pace Filmfest a selection of the best short films of the festival promoted by Modena Province will be proposed before the evening screenings of feature films. The section devoted to AniMOweb also involves a presentation of the contest by Andrea Cavazzuti - ex- editor of aniMOweb - on the 22nd July.
DVDs on the 4th edition of aniMOweb will be given freely. In addition, all the movies will be performed on the big plasma display panel in Sala Luce on one of the afternoons following Guerre e Pace Filmfest.
Animoweb contest has reached its 4th edition. Unfortunately, there are few chances it will start again. However, the movies and videogames produced in the 4 years of the festival from 2002 to 2005 are still largely appreciated and remain fresh and interesting.
As well as with ainMOweb, the schedule of the 6th Edition of Guerre e Pace Filmfest includes some outstanding live action feature films produced in 2007 and 2008, such as Hotel Meina by Carlo Lizzani, Lions for Lambs by Robert Redford, The Kite Runner by Marc Forster and many others. The programme also includes historical documentaries on 2nd World War by Istituto Luce, the presentation of the books by the journalists Giuliana Sgrena and Duilio Gianmaria and finally two exhibitions organised by the Italian State Police and the Italian Red Cross Association.

Animoweb at La Sapienza University of Rome

Monday, 16th January at 2 p.m. a seminar about aniMOweb is taking place with the contribution of Beniamino Grandi, Councillor for Arts and Culture of Modena Province and Andrea Cavazzuti, organiser of the contest, at La Sapienza University in Rome (Caserma Sani, Via Principe Amedeo 184).
Animoweb becomes a case study of the course in Marketing and Communication of the Territory held by professors Anna Rosa Montani and Alessandra Sannella, Faculty of Communication Science of La Sapienza University.
While the fourth edition of the contest on the themes of conflicts, war and peace is still going on with 90 submissions and the online audience vote, this meeting with university students represents an opportunity to illustrate aniMOweb story, motivations, aims and promotional effects on Modena and its territory. In addition, a selection of the works submitted by web designers, animators and amateurs in the four editions of the contest will be presented, as well as the concluding week (March) events for this fourth edition and the prize awarding ceremony, due for Saturday, 11th March.
The seminar is lasting about 2 hs and students will be given DVDs of the 2003 and 2004 editions of aniMOweb. Some copies of the DVD are still available and can be requested by writing to the following address: info.animoweb@provincia.modena.it.

The audience vote is on line

The time to vote, in order to assign the audience prize of the site aniMOweb, runs from 23rd December 2005 to 5th March 2006. The prize consists in ¿ 100 for each section of the contest (total budget of ¿ 300) and will be assigned to the three works reaching the highest score per section. Click the following links in order to vote section A (intro), section B (games and interactivity) and section C (animated short films).
Enter the online vote pages also from the VOTE section of this site.
It is possible to express one vote (score: 1 to 5) for each movie, but it is also allowed to vote for some movies only, with a minimum limit of 10 total scores per section (if at least 10 total scores are not assigned, the voting procedure is interrupted and it is necessary to repeat it).
In the on line vote pages, the biographical notes about the participants are summarised. In order to read the comments of the authors and their biographies, visit the BROWSE section of this site.
It is possible to view each movie by clicking on the title or on the image.
To assign a score, select a number from 0 to 5 in the pop-up menu under the photo of the movie. In order to vote, it is compulsory to fill in the form at the bottom of the on line vote pages. Subsequently press the button "Vote section (A,B,C)".
Only one voting procedure is admitted per computer and per person for each section. It has been decided that filling in the form is an obligatory task (name and surname, city, e-mail address) to make voters more responsible in assigning a money prize. To ensure the highest level of regularity in the voting procedure, aniMOweb editorial staff will periodically make random controls.
The vote counting programme will accept a maximum of 2 voting sessions from the same IP number.
The data of the voting forms are subject to the current laws concerning privacy and will not be used in any other way than the voting procedure.
The contest regulation establishes that the contest organisers retain the right to cancel with incontrovertible decision irregular votes.
The incomplete results of the on line voting will not be published, so as not to influence the decision of voters in any way during voting time.
The final results will be announced during the prize awarding ceremony due for end of February 2006 and will be published in subsequent news.

90 submissions for aniMOweb 4th Edition

The deadline of 4th December to submit works for the 4th Edition of aniMOweb has expired. It has been a great success. The theme of conflicts, cult of war and culture of peace has enticed the participation of authors from all over the world. There are 90 submissions, the highest number in the 4 editions of the contest.
It is too soon to make a commentary on the quality of works and on the subjects chosen by authors. There will be news on this after the publication of the movies. A great many submissions have not been examined yet, may be some CDROM will arrive, but it seems there is a large variety of ideas and approach.
The publication of these works will take longer than estimated, since last minute submissions are a lot. 8th December is a festivity and offices are closed until Monday, 12th December. As a consequence of that, the publication will presumably take place around that date. It will take some days before all the movies can be browsed and the audience vote can begin.
For the moment we would like to thank all the authors that have worked hard for long weeks to produce these jewels. They will certainly offer fresh ideas and reflections on the proposed theme. There are messages of hope and disdain, everybody has used irony, rather than dramatic and emphatic tones, with the aim to take part in the success of the project.

NOWAR!PROJECT: Design Radar at aniMOweb Festival

Design Radar launches NOWAR!PROJECT, a VISUAL WRITING project wich will be presented during the conclusive week of aniMOweb in February 2006 (the exact dates will be decided within the month of December 2005). It's a collaborative project involving artists and visual/graphic designers, aiming at the creation of visual narrations where the writing interlaces with illustration and mobile images.
The theme, coherent with aniMOweb 4th edition on conflicts and peace, is a clear and direct "no to war".
Authors can participate with images, texts, animations, movies, sounds and works must be sent on digital device by email/web.
For all the information and guidelines to participate in NOWAR!PROJECT, see the site of Design Radar, a no profit collective project created in 2001 with the purpose to support and inform about experiences online/offline on webdesign, design, art and communication in general.

aniMOweb 2003 DVD published

The Council for Environment and Sustainable Development and The Presidency of Modena Province are glad to present aniMOweb 2003 DVD-ROM, containing the submissions for the 2nd Edition of the contest on environment and air pollution.
Sustainable development and the need to combine the growth of human activities with the requirements of the environment, waste disposal, pollutants in the atmosphere, water pollution, noise pollution: more than 50 artists from all over the world produced intros, games, interactive products and short films to focus attention in a creative and original way on these themes of the contest.
In 2003 the Councillor for Environment contributing to the success of aniMOweb was Ferruccio Giovanelli. The current Councillor who made possible the publication of this DVD in October 2005 is Alberto Caldana, continuing the contribution of his predecessor.
The DVD-ROM (italian language only but very easy to browse) is free and allows the vision of aniMOweb 2003 works also out of the original context for which they were created. Although the real destination of these works is the Web, it is interesting to view them full screen on a TV set. This also offers people who do not usually make use of a computer an opportunity to see them.
The DVD-ROM also contains the original Macromedia Flash files submitted for the contest. With a common CD-ROM player on a computer it is possible to play the games or interact with the interactive applications of the contest.

HOW TO ASK FOR A FREE COPY OF THE DVD
The DVD-ROM has been printed into 2000 copies and it is given out during the events organised by the Council for Environment of Modena Province. The remaining copies can be asked freely by writing to info.animoweb@provincia.modena.it. Please provide name, surname and postal address.

WebMatch and aniMOweb

During the concluding week of aniMOweb 4th edition in February 2006, a special session of WebMatch (WebMatch.org) is taking place with a meeting/match between webdesigners and audience. The aim is to analyse and discuss excellent Internet sites. Stefania Bojano and Giuliano Gaia have already been organising 5 web matches all over Italy. With aniMOweb the purpose is to explore the themes of conflicts, war and culture of peace in sites devoted to these subjects. In November 2004 aniMOweb was special guest during a web match in Bologna, organised with the contribution of Francesco Galli - Yo-Yoll.net- (see the report of the event WebMatch).
WebMatch is a useful and unusual way to learn about the professional devices and secrets of Italian web designers, in an informal and friendly atmosphere, during interaction between the public and webmasters. Before February 2006 aniMOweb WebMatch, WebMatch.org organises an ArtMatch with San Francisco MOMA: the MOMA site manager Peter Samis takes part in a "match" against the public illustrating the project "Making Sense of Modern Art". The ArtMatch is taking place, Friday, 7th October at 6.30 p.m. at Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan.

The photos by Luigi Ottani in the guidelines of aniMOweb

The guidelines of aniMOweb include some general indications for each section, a reference text that introduces the topic of conflicts, war and peace and finally some images that the authors can use freely in order to produce their works for the contest.
In this fourth edition the images of the guidelines of aniMOweb are by and large (125 out of 128) the wonderful photographs made available by courtesy of the photographer and freelance journalist Luigi Ottani (www.luigiottani.it). They are exclusively for the uses of the contest.
Luigi Ottani was born in 1965, lives in Formigine (MODENA). He works as a newspaper, advertising and reportage photographer. His photographs have been published in the most important Italian newspapers and magazines and in the most outstanding international photography reviews. He is the author of numerous exhibitions and publications and works for "Avvenire", "Gazzetta di Modena" and "L'Espresso".
In 2004 his photograph of a Palestinian child was used as the symbol -image of a world Campaign in favour of Peace. In collaboration with the associations "Rock Not War", "Fair trade", Ecpat, CSI, Overseas and Legambiente he contributed to narrating, with unmistakable hope, the situation in the refugees camps of the Sahel in Eritrea, Bosnia just after the tremendous conflict of the Balkans, the life of the refugees from Saharawi, who have been living for 30 years in the Algerian desert, the plague of the adolescent prostitution in Cambodia, Palestine during the 2nd Intifada, Srilanka ravaged by the Tsunami and Chernobyl approximately after 20 years from the nuclear disaster.
The 125 artistic photos selected for aniMoweb guidelines do not show bloody scenes (Luigi Ottani is not a war reporter, even if he often works in dangerous situations and contexts), but depict the thin layer between daily life and tragedy or impending tragedy. They are able to highlight paradoxical situations and typical moments in the life of people living at the limit of survival.
All the photos by Luigi Ottani have a spirit of their own, but the opportunity to animate them in a "cinematographic" way, is an interesting challenge - not to miss- for authors of aniMOweb.
We remind participants that , like in previous editions, the contest regulation requires, for sections A (Intro animated) and B (games and interactivity), the use of at least one of the photos of the guidelines, which can be revised in any way. For section C of short animated movies the use of the images of the guidelines is optional. The regulation also allows the use of any further image, provided it is copyright free.

In preparation the DVD of aniMOweb 2003 about the theme of environment

Some good news for the 57 participants in the 2003 edition of aniMOweb: the Council for Environment of Modena Province has decided to produce the DVD-ROM about the second edition of aniMOweb on the topics of environment and atmospheric pollution. The DVD-ROM of aniMOweb 2003 will therefore be available together with the DVD-ROM of aniMOweb 2004 on the topics of women and equal opportunities. The DVD-ROM of aniMOweb 2003 is going to be printed in 2000 copies and is ready for free distribution in October 2005. It is still possible to ask for a copy of the DVD-ROM of aniMOweb 2004 and/or to book a copy of the DVD-ROM of aniMOweb 2003 writing to the address info.animoweb@provincia.modena.it.

7th Edition of the Pisa Cinema for Peace Biennale and AniMOweb

The 7th edition of the Pisa Cinema for Peace Biennale is taking place at the Multimedia Centre of Stazione Leopolda in Pisa from 17th to 19th November (www.cinemaperlapace.it - also in the English Language).
The Biennale regulation contemplates the sections "Peace Fiction" (contest for short films/fiction - ¿ 1.000), "Documentaries for Peace" (contest for documentary films- ¿ 1.000), "E-peace" (contest for Internet short films - ¿ 500), "Peace School"(contest for short films produced by school students - ¿ 500).
The deadline for submissions is 1st October 2005.
For the section "E-peace", short films with a maximum duration of 150 seconds can be submitted in the digital formats compatible with Internet diffusion (therefore in Flash format as well) in a DVD or in a CD-ROM. More information can be found in the above mentioned site.
An agreement between Pisa Cinema For Peace Biennale and aniMOweb will result in forms of collaboration between the two festivals. For example, the winning works of the previous editions of the Biennale and a selection of animated movies will be presented during aniMOweb Festival in February 2006 by the editorial staff of the Tuscan contest.
Since the two festivals have similar themes (in particular, the E-peace section of Pisa Cinema For Peace Biennale - deadline 1st October, max. 150 seconds - with aniMOweb 4th edition theme on conflicts, war and peace - deadline 30th November, max 300Kb for intros, 10 Mb for short films), it is possible to participate in both contests with the same movie, by combining the requisites.
This, however, does not prevent authors to take part with different works in both festivals.
