Foreword
Modena Province, in order to encourage the application of web and computer technologies to artistic creation and Internet software programming, promotes the 4th edition of aniMOweb, a contest in the production of interactive animation and applications. As in the previous editions, it also aims at advertising the people and companies taking part in the contest through the publication of their works both in the site www.animoweb.it and in a cd-rom and/or DVD.
The assigned theme is about conflicts, war and the culture of peace. The works produced for the contest will promote through the Internet the assigned theme of 2005 together with a series of events planned for the final week of aniMOweb.
Requisites
The contest is international and there are no limits in age or occupation for participants.
What the Contest is about
Three sections, two of which are re-proposed from the previous editions, have been established:
- Section A):
theme - > conflicts, war and peace: solidarity and justice to guarantee human rights and peace;
type - > animated intro
winner - > DVD, AniMOweb site
- Section B):
theme - > peace videogames;
type - > videogames, highly interactive applications
winner - > DVD, AniMOweb site
- Section C):
theme - > conflicts: between the cult of war and the culture of peace;
type - > animated short film
winner - > DVD, AniMOweb site
How to take part
- Each author or company can present a maximum of one entry for sections A and B and up to 3 entries for section C.
- The format of the files can only be:
Macromedia Flash (swf format, to be viewed with Flash Player)
- Dimensions of the swf files:
Section A) - > a maximum dimension of 300 Kb is proposed.
Section B) - > a maximum dimension of 2Mb is proposed.
Section C) - > a maximum dimension of 10 Mb is proposed
- Some guidelines for the contestants have been devised. They are indications and further directions on how to take part, a reference text, a set of images and films about the themes of the contest. They can be downloaded from the site www.animoweb.it.
The entries for sections A and B will have to contain at least one or more of these proposed images. They can be modified/rearranged in any way.
It is possible to use copyright free images not included in the guidelines for all sections. They must be used in accordance with the copyright laws.
No guidelines are established for section C and the only restriction is the theme. The reference text and the images are optional. For section C, it is also possible to present works created outside aniMOweb, provided that they were not submitted for previous editions and that they are consistent with the proposed theme. A special committee will decide about the admission of works as to the consistency with the theme.
Submission of works
The materials will have to be submitted from June, 30th 2005 and not beyond December, 4th 2005 (postponed from 30th November) via e-mail as attached files to the address concorso.animoweb@provincia.modena.it. They can also be sent in a masterized cd-rom via ordinary mail or delivered to the address: Provincia di Modena - Ufficio stampa - Concorso Animoweb - to the attention of Andrea Cavazzuti - Viale Martiri della Libertΰ, 34 - 41100 Modena - Italy. The contest organizers retain the right to postpone the submission deadline. The postponement will be advertised on the site www.animoweb.it. The author will have to enclose the application form that can be downloaded from the same site.
Judging panel
The jury will be composed of experts on webdesign, videogames, internet communication and animation cinema professionals, representatives of the sponsors and promoters of the contest. The evaluation parameters will be:
- consistency with the theme
- visual and communicative features
- originality
- quality and fluency of the animations
- use of sound and in particular its synchronicity with the visual part
- playability and quality of interactivity (for videogames and highly interactive applications of section B)
- dimensions of the files.
The jury evaluation will be incontrovertible.
Prizes and declaration of winners
The total budget is of 8.800 for 14 prizes. The winners for sections A and B will receive: 1500 if first place winners, 700 if second place and 300 if third place. The winners for section C will receive: 1500 if first place (1 prize for the best movie, independent from the nationality of the author) 700 for each of the 2 second place winners (1 Italian, 1 from a foreign country) and 300 for each of the 2 third place winners (as for the second prize). A further "audience prize" of 100 will be assigned for each section to those who will receive the votes of site www.animoweb.it visitors/viewers. Viewers can express their on-line vote in a special page during a voting time that will be announced in the site news after 30th November. Each computer will be able to send only one preference. The contest organizers retain the right to cancel with incontrovertible decision the irregular votes of viewers. Further prizes such as publications, books, free subscriptions to Modena Province magazines will be assigned to all entrants.
The contest organisers retain the right to establish further prizes (e.g. international prizes) in ways that will be explained and described in the news of the site www.animoweb.it and in the newsletter that subscribers will be receiving. Further prizes offered by sponsors can be added to the official prizes or can replace some of them if they have the same value.
The prize awarding will take place during a public ceremony. During this ceremony the winning works will be performed on a video screen.
Site of the contest
www.animoweb.it is the site of the contest. In this site it will be possible to find all the information about the contest and to download the files containing the reference guidelines and instructions for submissions. Information can be requested also by writing to info.animoweb@provincia.modena.it or calling n. 0039 059 209362. All entries will be published in the site after the deadline of 30 November.
The site will host a showcase for each author or company with biographical notes and links to other Internet sites from the same.
DVD
A DVD with a selection of the works or the complete collection of submissions (depending on the number of participants) will be produced. It will be free and advertised in the site www.animoweb.it.
Responsibilities
The participation in the contest implies the acceptance of this regulation without reserve. The entries remain the property of their authors or companies. However, these allow the free use of their works on the part of Modena Province, for unlimited time, for the following purposes:
- publication in the sites www.animoweb.it, www.provincia.modena.it, or in other possible sites of Modena Province or the sponsors of the contest
- publication in the DVD that will be produced after the contest, or in other possible DVDs and CD-ROMs produced by Modena Province or by other publishers with the permission of Modena Province, with the purpose of promoting aniMOweb
- public performance during the prize awarding ceremony or during other similar promotional events like public presentations or TV programs.
The submissions (images, music animation) must be in accordance with the Copyright laws. Any violation is the exclusive responsibility of the author, as declared in the application form. The contest organisers retain the right to exclude from the contest the submissions violating Copyright laws with incontrovertible decision.
As for the publication in the DVD produced after the contest, or in other possible CD-ROMs or DVDs of Modena Province or other publishers, the contest organisers establish the following rules: 1) all the works containing music by authors belonging to SIAE (The Italian Association of Musicians and Authors) will be excluded; 2) all the works containing music without the authorisation of the author in the application form will be excluded.
The contest organisers retain the right to exclude from the contest, with incontrovertible decision, the works considered offensive or damaging the image of the sponsoring institutions.
