FLASHANIMATHON 2003
This innovating event has teaching purposes and aims at rendering the prize awarding ceremony a special occasion. Some trailers were performed during the ceremony. The name FlashAnimathon means "animation marathon with Flash software". Some teachers, experts of Flash and computer animation, worked for a week with students of art and information technologies in a computer lab at Venturi School of Arts in Modena. During 5 days of full immersion (for a total of 44 hours) the students learned the basic elements of software and animation techniques. Subsequently, working in groups, they created some trailers about the themes of aniMOweb. These movies competed for a special prize assigned by the audience during the prize awarding ceremony of animoweb.
The company that supported this event was Melazeta web agency (www.melazeta.com), special Modenese partner of Macromedia. Matteo Stanzani, founder of Melazeta together with Marcella Albiero and member of AsifaItalia (Italian Association of Animation Cinema), was the teacher of this workshop. 10 students of visual communication took part and some teachers from the same school (Paola Macchi and Maria Menziani) led by Antonella Battilani co-operated. They believed this workshop was useful for students because they were able to get in touch with the real world of production and with one of their possible future professions.
Here is a description of the workshop designed by Melazeta:
- introduction to the concept of storyboard and animated narration (4 hrs )
- introduction to Flash animation (tweening, morphing, frame by frame) (8 hrs)
- project development (32 hrs - 4 days each of 8 hrs)
The event was filmed by other Venturi students. This film about the backstage was presented during the night of the prize awarding together with the movies produced during FlashAnimathon.

THE VIDEOS OF THE FLASHANIMATHON AND THE PRIZES AWARDING CEREMONY
During the prizes awarding ceremony Carlo Massarini called Antonella Battilani, teacher at Venturi School of Arts in Modena, and Matteo Stanzani of Melazeta to introduce the FlashAnimathon, that is the animation marathon with Flash software by the students of Venturi. The FlashAnimathon was one of the events of the concluding week of aniMOweb together with the exhibition Their Circular Life by Lorenzo Fonda and Davide Terenzi and the film review at Sala Truffaut.
Battilani and Stanzani, coordinators of the project proposed by Andrea Cavazzuti and financed by the Council for Environment thanks to Giovanni Rompianesi, introduced the backstage film of the 5 intense days of work with the 9 students. Two other students of Venturi had filmed the backstage.

The aim of FlashAnimathon was the production of some trailers and short animated films in Flash about aniMOweb and environmental themes. The 5 films were screened during the prize awarding and were voted by the audience with special voting papers handed over for the occasion. At the end of the ceremony the winner was proclaimed, even if all the 5 films were all successful, considering that the authors were beginners with Flash.
